Student Mission Opportunities
Our Student Ministry participates in Kingdom Builders each summer so our students can put their love into action through serving others. It is a way for students to serve their community, nation, and our world. For more information concerning Kingdom Builders you can check out their website at www.kbministries.org.

Students also participate in many local mission projects, community events, and international mission experiences throughout the year.

Operation Helping Hand
Operation Helping Hand (OHH) is a one-day mission blitz in our community usually scheduled in April. It is a great day for people to do hands-on missions work to help others in our community. Projects are available for young children to the oldest members of our church. We do sewing projects, card making, letter writing, painting, yard cleaning, even minor construction jobs and much more. OHH is a great way to get involved in local missions work to show the love of Christ to the people of Griffin. Call Kristi Jacobs for more information.

Missions in Motion
Missions in Motion are groups of students and adults that are involved in hands on mission opportunities in our community. The following are the on-going ministries of Missions in Motion.

  • On the first Saturday of each month First Baptist Missions in Motion staffs the Five Loaves and Two Fish food pantry. We have 14 volunteers that work bagging and distributing food. We serve approximately 50-60 families in a two hour period. The food pantry is funded solely on monetary and food donations and is staffed strictly by volunteers. It is open six days a week and is the only source of help for many hungry people. If you would like to volunteer, contact Len or Nancy Bythewood.

  • During the school year on Monday through Thursday afternoons volunteers assist in the tutoring program for elementary and middle school students at Meriwether Homes. The tutors work with one or two children in completing their homework and providing additional educational enrichment. For more information contact Joyce McCartney.

  • Volunteers from First Baptist work at the Abundant Life Soup Kitchen operated at St. George’s Episcopal Church each weekday morning to provide a noon meal to the hungry and hurting in the Griffin Community. If you are interested in volunteering contact the church office.

Spalding Samaritans offers utility assistance to those needing emergency help. Spalding Samaritans is a collaborative effort of many churches and individuals in our community. Volunteers meet at First Baptist on the third Tuesday afternoon of each month to interview those requesting assistance. If you are interested in helping contact Brian McCartney.

Benevolence Team
More information about the Benevolence Team can be found here. Application times are on Monday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. and the fourth Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Scout Lodge.

Caregivers Clothing and Furniture Ministry
The Caregivers Ministry to those in need in our community has two divisions. Clothing, linens, and kitchen items are organized and supplied to those requesting these items through the Benevolence Team. Donations for this ministry can be brought to the Caregivers House on Eighth Street each Monday and Wednesday morning between 9 and 11. Anyone wishing to volunteer to work in this ministry may contact Juanita Roberts.
The other aspect of Caregivers is the Furniture Ministry. Furniture is also requested through the Benevolence Team. Those wishing to donate or help with delivery of furniture may contact Charles Hammock.

Adult Sunday School Mission Projects
There are many mission projects conducted by our Adult Sunday School classes. The Adult Sunday School Ministry compiles a list of these so that information on the various ministries may be shared.

Miskito Partnership
First Baptist is engaged in a partnership with the indigenous Miskito (pronounced “mees’ kee toe”) Baptist church through the ministry of missionaries Jim and Viola Palmer. As a U.S. church ministry partner, First Baptist is committed to provide a strong prayer base, logistical support, and human resources to impact church planting among the unreached Miskito people, Amerindians who live in the Coco River basin of Nicaragua and Honduras. Through God’s grace and a strategic plan of human needs projects, saturation evangelism, and leadership training, a church planting movement has begun among the Miskito people. There are still geographic areas that have not been reached, but God is working among the Miskito. We are privileged to join God in that work. Call Robin Bohn for more information about praying and going.

Other Opportunities
First Baptist Church has been involved in adult and student mission trips for a number of years. We are looking forward to participating in mission opportunities within the state of Georgia as we partner with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia and Kingdom Builders.
